Mr. Joe A. Southerland, age 77, Jonesborough, passed away Friday May 27, 2016 at the Johnson City Medical Center.
He was a native of Washington County, TN and was the son of the late R.H. Southerland and Mary Murr Southerland, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Perryman Southerland and Lee Southerland; two sisters Juanita Purcell and Grace Minton.
Joe was a member of Bowmantown Baptist Church and an active member of Bowmantown Ruritan where he had 50 years’ prefect attendance.
Those left to cherish his memory are three brothers; Jack Southerland (Violet), Homer Southerland (Judy), Opie Southerland (Doreen); three sisters; Della Ramsey, Ferrell Fair (Cecil), Linda Williams (Elwayne); several nieces, nephews, also his church family whom Joe loved dearly.
The family would like to thank NHC for the care he received there.
Memorial donations may be made to Bowmantown Baptist Church in Joe’s Memory.
Funeral services will be Tuesday May 31, 2016 7:00PM at Bowmantown Baptist Church with Pastor Jimmy Rogers and Minister Byron Paddock officiating. The family will receive family and friends from 5:00-7:00PM prior to the service.
Graveside services will be Wednesday June 1, 2016 11:00 AM at Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be deacons of Bowmantown Baptist Church. Honorary Pallbearers will be Robert Ward, Wayne Thornburg, and Gil Grossman.
