Dear Susan: I commenced my career in patents in 1959 under the fine tutelage of your father at Great Lakes Carbon. This was when the research labs were still located in Morton Grove, Illinois. I was going to night school at John Marshall at the time. Carl was a patient and kind tutor and introduced me to the many nuances of patent law. I am so blessed that we remained in contact with one another for at least 50 years after I left Great Lakes. Jim Lucas

I was so sorry to hear about Carl.I worked with him in the Law Department at Great Lakes Carbon in New York and he was a fine and honorable man.My wife and I always enjoyed social occasions with Carl and Dorothy either in NY or at the "farm" in Vermont. One year my wife and I attended a convention in Hawaii as did Carl and Dorothy. They both could not have been more gracious inviting us to dinner with his sister and her husband and generally watching out for his younger co-worker. He will be in our prayers.
