I was going through old address books, found Leon’s name and address (Rt. 2, Jonesboro). Then I googled and found his obituary. I am so sorry to read of his passing but pleased to read about his life. We trained together at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio in the spring of ‘69 (?). I was a reservist from Dallas. Leon was a good man and I was honored to count him as a friend. He is fondly and respectfully remembered.

I knew Leon and Lynn as young men and I knew Leon
as a talented story teller in rhyme. Leon as a lad
you had "Dominion" over the bull who became cross-
eyed due to the combined efforts of the Overbay
twins. I am so thankful that I was able to share
your childhood through your story-telling. GOD
speed to your new home in Heaven.

What can you say about Leon? I met him when I
first joined the Jonesborough Storytellers
Guild 9 years ago. The Boone's Creek Bard! I
loved his poems-I think the one about the
husband going to buy a bra for his wife was my
favorite! Everyone would laugh so hard they'd
have tears in their eyes.I have tears in my
eyes now writing this-sad that I will no longer
see Leon or hear him tell stories, but also
tears of joy for I know he's in Heaven telling
his stories. So if a little rain falls tomorrow
it's because the Angels are listening to Leon's
poems and stories about his and his twin
brother's antics in Boone's Creek and laughing
so hard they're crying. God Bless you Leon you
will be missed. Love, thoughts and prayers to
Pam and their family.

Deepest sympathy and condolences to the entire Overbay
family. Leon was more than an extraordinary storyteller. He
was an extraordinary man who inspired and encouraged the
best in all of us who knew him. May we all find some comfort
in this fact: GOD loved Leon so much that HE took him home
on Easter Sunday--the day that Jesus rose from the tomb.
