Mr. Billie Byron Barnes, age 85, passed away Tuesday March 22, 2016 at the Lakebridge Health Care Center in Johnson City.
Mr. Barnes was a native of the town of Gray and son of the late George Edgar Barnes and Eula Barnes Tomlinson. He was preceded in death by his son, Byron Scott Barnes, his twin sister, Bonnie B. Gray, brother, John U. Barnes and sister, Frances Bray.
He retired from Tennessee Eastman in 1992 after 38 years of service, prior to that he served as Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army for five years.
He was a member of Gray United Methodist Church and attended Tri-Cities Baptist Church. Also active in the community, he served as President of the Gray Community Chest and served two terms in the Washington County Election Commission.
Survivors include two daughters and son-in laws and one son and daughter in law, Deborah and Lee Watkins, Mableton, GA, Donna and Mike Saylor, Jonesborough, Tony and Stephanie Barnes, Gray. Daughter-in-law, Mary Lynn Barnes. Grandchildren, Elliott Cox, Atlanta, GA, Brad Barnes, Gray, Brittany Huff, Johnson City, Byron Barnes, Johnson City, Maria Barnes, Johnson City and Great Grandson, Sawyer Barnes, Gray.
A celebration of life services will be conducted 1:00 PM Thursday, March 24, 2016 at the Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Dr. Ralph Kidd and Minister Clinton Andrews officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00-1:00 PM Thursday prior to the service. Interment services will follow at Mountain Home National Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Elliott Cox, Brad Barnes, Byron Barnes, Son-in-laws Lee Watkins and Mike Saylor, and husband of Brittany Huff, Ryne Huff, honorary Pallbearer is Mark Lilly.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gray United Methodist Church, Apple Butter Fund, P.O. Box 8068, Gray TN 37615 or Gray Community Chest, P.O. Box 8024, Gray TN 37615. The Family would also like to thank the V.A.. Medical Center, Mountain States Hospice and the Lakebridge Health Care Center staffs for their exceptional care.
