Cecil D. Bitner,72, of Chuckey passed away March 19 after a valiant battle against cancer. He is survived by his wife of 43 years - Pat Bitner, his daughter - Hannah Bitner, two sisters and brothers-in-law - Barbara and J.C. Thompson and June and Frank Thompson, mother-in-law, Frances Sayler, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law - Becky Neal, George Sayler, and Raymond and Tammie Sayler, and several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Reda and Dearl Bitner.
Cecil loved horses and horse shows. He trained horses and gave riding lessons for a number of years. Watching children learn to ride was one of his greatest joys. Mr. Bitner was also a retired truck driver. He has donated his body to the Quillen College of Medicine at ETSU in hopes that it will benefit others. There will be no formal visitation or services. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the local Humane Society or Holston Home for Children. The family thanks Mountain Home VA, especially the oncology department, and Avalon Hospice services. A special thanks to all those who visited, brought special treats, and telephoned. You all held a special place in his heart.

Pat, I was so sorry to learn of Cecil's passing. I worked with Cecil at Greene Valley "way back in the day." I always liked and respected Cecil, and though we have been away from Greeneville for decades, Cecil is one of the folks I have remembered and thought about often.
