Mrs. Thelma Isabella Bennett Snyder, age 95, Jonesborough, passed away Monday, February 22, 2016 at the Johnson City Medical Center.
Mrs. Snyder was born in Crockett, VA, daughter of the late Randolph Welch and Ada Isabella Steffy Bennett. She was also proceeded in death by her husband, Don Snyder.
Mrs. Snyder grew up and spent her life in Johnson City and Jonesborough, graduating from Science Hill High School. She was a kindergarten and high school teacher in the Johnson City Schools at Stratton, Lamar in Washington County, and at First Presbyterian Church. She also was instrumental in beginning Head Start in Washington County.
Mrs. Snyder was an avid reader who had many interests including hunting with her father and grandfather, sewing, antiques, music, and genealogy. She was a past member of the DAR, RDC, and the Johnson City Garden Club.
Survivors include her children, Donald R. Snyder, David M. Snyder, Martha A. Snyder, and Rebecca Snyder Moss, all of Jonesborough; grandchildren, Beth Snyder Pugh (Todd), Rachel Snyder, James P. Snyder, Jacob R. Snyder, and Emily Victoria Snyder; great-grandchildren Isabella Snyder and Lollie Usary; and brother Randolph Welch (Sonny) Bennett Jr.
The family wishes to give special thanks to Mr.’s Snyder’s long time caregiver, Nicki Graybeal Roberts.
A memorial service for Mrs. Snyder will be held 8:00 PM, Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor Ed Wolff officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM prior to the service. Graveside services will be private.
The family will also receive friends at her daughter’s home, 204 E. Main ST, Jonesborough.
