Miss Carolyn A. Colley, age 71, Telford passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at the Johnson City Medical Center.
Miss Colley was born in Johnson City, daughter of the late Hunter Henry Colley and Marie McGraw Colley Shanks. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Willis M. Shanks, a sister Rose Marie Colley Leppert, and brothers-in-law Terrance Good and Ronald A. Hite.
Carolyn was a remarkable person who loved books, traveling, learning, and teaching. She was a very kind and generous person who loved all people and animals. She graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1966 and received her master’s and EdD degrees from the University of Georgia. Carolyn taught middle school in Georgia and was twice honored by the governor as a Georgia Distinguished Teacher of the Year.
Miss Colley is survived by three sisters, Virginia C. Whitaker and husband James G. of Atlanta, Billie Good, Telford, and Ellen Hite, Telford; brother Thomas E. Shanks of Piney Flats; nephew and niece David A. Hite and Melissa Hite, Telford; brother-in-law, Paul Leppert, California; niece, Valerie Leppert; dearest friend, Becky Wimmer, Virginia; and several cousins.
The family wishes to express their special thanks to the Washington County EMT and the nursing staff at Johnson City Medical Center for their loving and compassionate care to Carolyn.

Diana Mashburn
Carolyn was a good friend to me when I carried her mail. She
always had a smile although she was having a bad day. We
loved to talk about recorded books and we both had
suggestions on good books. I have missed her and Ginny and
James since I retired and will think of all of them and keep the
family in my prayers
