Ellis E. Hayes, age 93, Telford, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2015 at the Four Oaks Healthcare Center in Jonesborough.
A Washington County native, he was the son of the late George W. and Dora McKee Hayes. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Howard Hayes, Frank Hayes, and his wife Mildred, Rev. Marvin D. Hayes, his sister, Lois Whitaker and a brother-in-law, Harold France.
Mr. Hayes was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy on board the USS Maryland. He retired from Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home in Jonesborough. After retirement, he enjoyed working on his farm and in his garden.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Shirley Tester Hayes, Telford; his son, Alan Hayes, Telford; sister, Marie France, Bristol, VA; sister-in-law, Jeannie Hayes, Knoxville; sister-in-law, Lora Rice and her husband Clarence, Jonesborough; and several nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Monday, September 28, 2015 at the Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home.
Graveside services will 4:00 pm Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at New Victory Methodist Cemetery with Rev. Jeremy Dykes and Rev. Cathy Fowler officiating.
Pallbearers will be Harold Hayes, Kevin France, Dennis Rice, John Miles, Clarence Miles, Ralph Treadway, Scotty Brown and Jerry Smallman. Honorary pallbearers will be Jay Ferguson, David Wise, Alvin France, Justin Hayes, John Hayes and Lynn Whitaker.
