Mr. Hugh F. “Sonny” Kent, age 72, Jonesborough, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2015 at the Franklin Woods Community Hospital with his loving wife Patty of 40 years and his caring daughters by his side.
Mr. Kent was born in Washington County and son of the late Dave & Catherine Stepp Kent.
He attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Mr. Kent was a United States Marine Corp Veteran, having served in Vietnam.
He was owner & operator of S&K Logistics. He was an avid farmer and fisherman. He loved to travel with his family and loved being a grandfather.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Patty Brobeck Kent, Jonesborough; four children, Frank Kent and Sherry Kent, both of Wilmington, NC, Kristy McConnell (Jonathan), Gate City, VA and Kim Whitehead (Daniel), Jonesborough; brother, Jerry Kent; sister, Betty Reeves; grandchildren, Casey Kent and Carson Kent, both of Wilmington, Ethan McConnell Eli McConnell and Ean McConnell, all of Gate City.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the doctors and staff at Franklin Woods Community Hospital, Wellmont Cancer Institution of Johnson City and Kingsport for their kindness and care.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:30 am Saturday, July 18, 2015 at the Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Nulf officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:30 am Saturday prior to the service. Interment services will follow at Monte Vista Burial Park.
Pallbearers will be Jim Holtsclaw, Keith Toth, Joey McQueen, Robert Brobeck, David Staten, Carson Kent and Daniel Staten. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe McQueen, Myra Blankenship, Dr. Ibrahim Nakhoul, Wayman Bailey, Dr. Alan Colyar and Gail McConnell.
Memorial donations may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church 284 Mt. Zion Church Rd. Jonesborough, TN 37659.

I worked for Sonny this summer on his farm and he was a kind and generous man. We had lot's of laughs together and grew close to be friends. I was devastated to hear of his passing but I know that he is in the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ and is pain free in paradise !!
