Velma Edwards Ramsey Westmoreland, 99, of Riegelwood, NC, formerly of Wilmington, NC, and Myrtle Beach, SC, died Friday, May 15, 2015, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Jonesborough, TN, the daughter of the late Oliver W. and Ethel Whaley Edwards. Also remembered is her husbands, Allison Ramsey and William Westmoreland, and her daughter, Louise Ramsey Houston, and a brother, James B. Edwards, all of who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Westmoreland retired from the Federal Government. She worked as a LPN at Myrtle Beach Air Force Base from 1966 to 1969. In 1969, she began working at Oteen Veterans Hospital until her retirement in 1975. In 1980, she graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in social work. She worked as a social worker with the Horry County Council on Aging for a number of years.
Mrs. Westmoreland was a former member of First United Methodist Church in Myrtle Beach, SC, and Masonboro Baptist Church in Wilmington, NC.

Surviving is her son, William W. Westmoreland and wife, Maria, of Riegelwood, NC; son-in-law, Junior Houston, of Myrtle Beach, SC; four grandchildren, Ana Funk and Enrique Baltazar, both of Wilmington, NC, Sam Houston, of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Katherine Haselden and husband, Mark, of Georgetown, SC; six great-grandchildren, Angel, Christian, Nyomi, Erika, Mia and Skylar; one great-great-grandchild, Maelyn.

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Thursday, May 21, 2015, at Masonboro Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Inurnment services will be conducted 10:30 am Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Eden Cemetery.
