Eric Alexander Hartman

02/28/2015

Eric Alexander Hartman, 53, of Jonesborough, went to live forever with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, February 28th, 2015, of complications following heart surgery.
Eric was born on July 18, 1961. He attended Sulphur Springs High School and graduated from Daniel Boone High School. He also graduated from Northeast Technical School with an Associate’s Degree in Auto Mechanics. Eric was service manager at C&T Volkswagen and Sherwood Chevrolet for approximately 10 years. In 1999 he opened his own business in Sulphur Springs. Eric was a Master Automotive Technician, ASE Certified, for over 30 years. He was brilliant in his profession, refusing to allow any mechanical problem to stump him. Eric’s death following heart surgery is a complete mystery. Eric could have figured it out.
He was very self-reliant, independent, hardworking and extremely intelligent. Eric loved nature, studying his Bible, taking care of his cattle and the farm, his family, friends, history, he loved learning, teaching children, solving the unsolvable, telling stories, “loafin”, and most of all, his beloved Eli and Willie. He was a true man of God.
Eric was preceded in death by his Daddy, Harry Gene Hartman. He is survived by his Mama, Betty McCracken Hartman Webb; two sisters, Sherry Hartman Hyatt (Doc); Joy Hartman Horton (Bryan); three brothers, Terry Hartman (Sandy), Bill Hartman, Randall Hartman (Betsy) and many, many nieces and nephews, and his beloved Eli and Willie.
He will be buried at Washington County Memory Gardens on Friday, March 6th, at 3:30 pm.
Pallbearers will be Terry Hartman, Bill Hartman, Randall Hartman, Jared Horton, Doc Hyatt, Kevin Hartman, Ben Carder, and Harrison Hartman. Honorary pallbearers: Houston Carder, Dailey Carder, and Cameron Davis.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Journeys End No Kill Animal Shelter, The Bridge Home No Kill Animal Rescue or Washington County, TN Animal Shelter.

I went to high school with Eric at DBHS. He first caught my attention during the spring of our junior year while we were rehearsing for our spring choral concert. He was singing his solo with The Reflections and was having so much fun; it was contagious. We got to know one another a bit over the next few months. He was always kind, always smiling, and always a gentleman. This world has truly lost one of the good guys way too soon. Blessings to your family as you adapt to life without him. I'll look forward with you to seeing him again around the throne of God.

Words aren't sufficient to express the thoughts my family and I had toward Eric. Cohort, counselor, consoler, adviser, friend - he was all of those to us and more. My Mother loved him like a second son. Our love and prayers go out to each member of the family. In the days to come, rest in the presence of the Father and in the knowledge that Eric was very loved by so many.

Some 55 years ago when we first came to Sulphur Springs community, Gene and Betty Hartman and family were among the first people we knew. We had the pleasure of knowing and working with the kids, including Eric, in church, school and the community. Eric was a special child, youth and man. Smart, respectful, with a willingness to learn and teach others. Our hearts go out to his mother Betty and siblings Terry, Sherry, Joy, Billy and Randal and their families in this great loss. We love you and wish you the best.

During this difficult time we would like to say your sadness and loss is very much shared by us. Knowing Eric was a true pleasure. Through business and our "free" time conversations he touched our lives. Everyone loved Eric! His intelligence was obivious and his goodness just flowed with his comments and concerns of life. It was a pleasure and honor to call Eric a friend. God Bless to all his family.

Sorry to hear this. Eric was the first person other than family that I met after moving to Tennessee. He hired me at Sherwood VW as a tech and even offered to help move us. What a wonderful human being he was! It's certain he is resting in the light of the Lord.
