May Ruth Purcell Barnes, age 86, Jonesborough, passed away Saturday February 28, 2015 at Four Oaks Healthcare Center in Jonesborough.
Mrs. Barnes was born in Pulaski, Virginia to the late Harold and Beulah Kate Rose Purcell. She was also proceeded in death by her first husband, Ray Russell and second husband Kenneth “Red” Barnes, a daughter, Emma Jean Russell and five brothers, Harold Ralph Purcell, Woodrow Purcell, Guy Edward Purcell, Charles “Johnny” Purcell, and Dennis Theodore Purcell.
May enjoyed gardening and her flowers.
May was a member of the VFW Auxiliary for 65 years.
She is survived by a daughter, Emma Sue “Peanut” Rourk; grandchildren Tammy Grindstaff and husband Tim, Tim Royston and wife Eva, and Richard Rourk and wife Rachel, seven great grandchildren; and a brother Richard Purcell, special nephew Darrell Purcell.
Funeral services for Mrs. Barnes will be held Friday, March 6, 2015 1:30 PM at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor Jeremey Dykes officiating. The family will receive family and friends from 12:00 -1:30 PM prior to the service.
Graveside services will follow at Maple Lawn Cemetery.
