Dr. Richards was a wonderful man and he will be missed. He was such a great boss--always ready to listen and encourage the faculty in some new venture. As a Department Head, he was tops. You could count on him to protect his Department and shield faculty from misguided upper administrators. I don't think there was a faculty member who didn't think the world of him and appreciate his guidance. Dr. Richards was a lot of fun, too--he was an interesting conversationalist with a wealth of experiences and stories to tell that kept us fascinated. I always loved best to see him with Shirley, as they had the most loving and kind relationship. Two wonderful, smart, caring people who made the world around them a much nicer place. Shirley, we just mourn with you.
