Nathan Luke Story

01/24/2015

On January 24, 2015 at 3:54 pm our loving son and brother, Nathan Luke Story, went home to be with the Lord.
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith 11 Timothy 4:7
Luke was a Sergeant with the Jonesborough Fire Department, First Responder with Johnson City Washington County EMS Rescue Services and also served with the Gray Volunteer Fire Department. Luke was a graduate of David Crockett High School and an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America.
Will Rogers said “I never met a man I didn’t like” Luke never met a stranger, even in his childhood he would stop and talk to anyone and everyone that crossed his path. Luke responded to numerous emergency call and his comforting voice was heard by many.
There is a brotherhood among firefighters, however, as one will see that brotherhood extends to all emergency services (Police, Fire, & EMS) they all had a part in Luke’s life.
Luke was preceded in death by his grandparents Ervin & Mary Lynn Haynie, Herman & Mary Story and Uncle John Haynie.
Luke is the son of Kenneth & Jayne Story of Jonesborough; two brothers, Jeff Story and wife, Virginia and Mark Story and wife, Dedy; cousin, Amanda Moore and husband Dale; aunt Vickie Haynie; cousins, Ricky Story and wife Darlene, and Gene Scott, Jr. ; aunt, Mary Scott and husband Gene; nieces and nephews, Argelin Story, Kenneth J. Story, Elaina Parks, Richard Parks, Emilie McGuire, Mallory McGuire, Kara Wayman, Emma Moore and Henry Scott; and close friend, Adam Williams and close relative Beckie Williams.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 PM and 5:00-7:00 PM Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at the Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at the Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike Anglin officiating. Interment services will follow at Cherokee Baptist Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be fellow Firefighters and EMS personnel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Luke Story Pancreatic Cancer Foundation 123 Boone Street Jonesborough, TN 37659.

Kenneth and Jayne I cannot express how sorry I am for your loss. NO parent should EVER have to bury a child, but for some reason God made this decision. Just know Luke is not suffering now and the angel wings are attached to him and his uniform. I pray you will be able to find comfort in your heart.

Dear Story family and Adam Williams, Our family is praying for you all that you would find and be filled with God's peace and be surrounded by His love. Living without Luke in your daily lives is going to be a very hard adjustment. I just pray that God will provide each of you with His comfort, strength (emotional and physical), and His peace that surpasses all understanding knowing Luke is not suffering and is in Heaven with the Lord of all. May God bless you each. Laura Horner Mize

I have fond memories of "Luckus" as I called him when he was about 5 or 6 years old. You would bring him into Hamilton Bank on Market Street every Friday and we would talk about everything and he was the sweetest little boy. As everyone goes their own ways I lost contact with the family over the years, but I never will forget those good times. You are in my thoughts and prayers...Just remember he is only one step away from us.

How do you say goodbye to someone who gave so much to so many. Always first to lend a hand with that special smile. Always happy. You have walked the narrow path that leads to heaven. I will miss you greatly, but I know you are in the arms of Jesus and it is well deserved. It won't be the same to drive by the fire department and not see you. Prayers for the family. Luke was one of a kind.

My deepest condolences to Luke's family. I have such fond memories of Luke. He was always so pleasant and smiling. My fondest memory is when he and my daughter were at JES. Those were the days he first started noticing girls:). He grew into a fine young man who was well respected by all. We will remember Luke always as the hero he was. Rest in Peace dear Luke.

Luke and I graduated high school together. He always had a smile to share. He was always such a sweet person to b around, very kind, caring and giving. It showed as he graduated and later became a firefighter. I'm heartbroken at the news of his passing, the world will not b the same without him. But he deserves to b with the angels, because he was one here on earth. He's not suffering any more. To the family: words cannot express the pain Ur heart is feeling, and nothibg can take away that pain. May God give u peace during this trying. God bless u.

Luke, you were like a little brother to me, and befriended me when I first came to Jonesborough Public Safety almost twelve years ago. I will never forget the silly way you laughed and that big ole grin. You gave your all anytime it was needed and then some. RIP sweet guy, I will miss you........
