Mr. Rudy Basil Jones, Jonesborough, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, January 10, 2015 at his residence.
Mr. Jones was born in Sullivan County and was the son of the late Reverend Basil and Elsie Smith Jones. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Timothy Jones.
Mr. Jones was a member of New Victory Baptist Church.
Mr. Jones served in the U.S. Navy from 1969-1971 stationed on the USS Independence Aircraft Carrier. He continued in the Reserves for several more years.
He was an automobile salesperson owning his own business for several years. He then worked with local automobile dealers until his retirement.
Mr. Jones loved to purchase older model vehicles and “freshen” them up for resalesale. He also loved spending time with his two special canine companions, Max and Jax.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Patricia Sliger Jones; daughter, Tracy Jones; sister, Yvonne Parsons and brother-in-law Coy Parsons Jr.; sister, Netheta Justice and brother-in-law Randy Justice; stepmother, Lucy Jones and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Jones will be held at 8:00 PM, Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Reverend Jon Rogers and Deacon Tim Parsons officiating and Angie Tilson, soloist. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM prior to the service.
Graveside services will be Friday, January 16, 2015, 11:00 AM at New Victory Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jason Ball, Nathan Nuckols, Phil Orr, Chris Parsons, Tim Parsons, Austin Shanks, and Drew Shanks. Honorary pallbearers will be Darel Ball, Joe Dickeson, Howard Farthing, Bud Fellers, and Tim Ford.
