Mrs. Anna Kathern Hensley, age 88, Baltimore, MD, formerly of Jonesborough, passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2014 in Forest Hill, MD.
Mrs. Hensley was born in Washington County and daughter of the late Charles Worley and Mary Alice Dykes Mottern. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Harrison Hensley, sisters, Willie Lee Meader and husband Roy T. Meader, Mary Ella Russell and husband William Earl, brothers, Raymond Mottern and wife Bessie, Butler Mottern and wife Gladys, Taylor “Tootie” Mottern and Sherrill Mottern; in-laws, Edgar and Mafra Oliver, Dr. James and Dora Pettigrew, Sherman and Gladys Payne and Josephine Mottern.
She was affectionately known as “Granny” to everyone after the birth of her first grandchild, Charles Lee McNeil on July 6, 1964.
After the death of her mother, Mary Alice in 1938, Mrs. Hensley assumed the role of care-giver for her father and became mother to her sister Willie Lee and brothers, James “Willis” and Taylor “Tootie” Mottern until she became a resident of Middle River/Essex, MD in 1957.
Mrs. Hensley held a variety of employment positions and retired at the age of 72.
Survivors include her children, Shirley Mottern Jones (Walter), Aiken, SC, Victoria Rapisarda (John), Forest Hill, MD and Back Harrison Hensley (Bernadette) Towson, MD; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; brother, James “Willis” Mottern, Jonesborough; sister, Hazel Broughton, Kingsport; in-laws, Jimmy and Gwendolyn Snyder, Jonesborough; special friends, Claudia “Dee Dee” Campbell and Dawn Cullum and Luann Lee.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-7:30 pm Saturday, December 6, 2014 at the Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 pm Sunday, December 7, 2014 at Maple Lawn Cemetery with Rev. Lenny Smith officiating. Friends are requested to meet at the funeral home at 1:00 pm prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be family.
