Mr. Lewis R. Sims, age 84, Jonesborough, TN, passed away Saturday, November 22, 2014 at his residence.
Mr. Sims was a native of Washington County and the son of the late F. N. and Inez Rawls Sims. He was also preceded in death by two brothers George and Robert Sims.
He’s survived by loving wife, Becky Poteat Sims. He also leaves a son, Douglas Sims and his wife Melanie. Mr. Sims is also survived by a daughter, Laura Olson and her husband, Craig. Mr. Sims loved his grandsons, James, Marcus, Taylor and Caleb as well as his only granddaughter, Mary Sarah. He is survived by several cousins and many friends.
Mr. Sims retired from Tennessee Eastman after 27 years of service.
Mr. Sims was a United States Air Force Veteran. He was a member of 57TH Strategic Air Command and Air Weather Service at Hickam Air Force Base in Honolulu, Hawaii.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Jonesborough for over 50 Years, where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher to the Jr. Class for over 40 years, and loved to sing in the choir.
Lewis loved his family, Tennessee Football, golf, spending winters in Florida, going to Hawaii, and watching his kids and grandkids show 4-H cattle.
Funeral services will be Monday, November 24, 2014 at 1:00 PM in the Jonesborough First Baptist Church, with Dr. James Harrison officiating. The family will receive family and friends from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm prior to the service.
Interment with Military Honors will follow at Maple Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary Pallbearer will be Mike Barnett.
