Mr. Eric Anson Matthews, age 71, Jonesborough, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the Johnson City Medical Center.
Mr. Matthews was born in Sussex County, New Jersey and son of late Anton and Mamie Matthews Grabowski.
He was a member of Telford United Methodist Church. He participated in Helping Hands for Christ.
Mr. Matthews was a retired teacher with the Washington County School System. He taught at Washington College Academy, Adventure Program at Watauga Mental Health, Boones Creek Middle School, and West View Elementary.
He served his country in the United States Army and was a Vietnam veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Kyker Matthews of the home; sons, Aaron Anson Matthews and fiancé Stefanie Bennett of Knoxville and Daniel Eric Matthews and wife Tiffany of Jonesborough; daughter, Ann Elizabeth Matthews of Jackson, Tennessee; grandson, Tristan Anson Matthews of Jonesborough; sister, Ranaye Grabowski of Dallas, Texas; sister and brother in law Ann and Larry Street, nieces Michele Gergish and Tosha Gergish, both of Talbot, Tennessee; mother-in-law, LaVonda Kyker of Telford; cousins Jeff Matthews, Barbara Matthews, Kendra Matthews, and Stephanie Matthews.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, November 14, 2014, 7 PM, at Telford United Methodist Church with Pastor Michael Vaughn officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM prior to the service.
Interment services will be conducted Saturday, 11 AM, at Telford Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be members of the Telford United Methodist Church Helping Hands for Christ.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Telford United Methodist Church Bicycle Fund, 1775 Old State Route 34, Telford, Tennessee 37690.
