On Friday, August 1, 2014, Atlas Gaylor "Nana" May went home to be with her Savior after a brief illness at the Johnson City Medical Center.
Mrs. May was 93 years old and was born in Jacksboro, TN. In 1956 Atlas called Jonesborough her home when she and her husband moved to her current residence on Hwy 107 in the Lamar Community.
Atlas was preceded in death by her husband, Sam, who passed away in 1966. Atlas has 4 living children, Allan and wife, Patty, of Erwin, TN; David and wife, Sally, of Jonesborough, TN; Larry and wife, Alisa, of Manassas, VA; and Leesa and husband, Jim, of Perryville, MD, 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren Atlas loved her family immensely and taught everyone the value of loving one another unconditionally.
She was of the Methodist faith and a devoted Christian being the eldest member of Sevier's United Methodist Church, Jonesborough, TN.
Funeral services will be conducted 8:00 PM Monday, August 4, 2014 at the Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor Rance Edwards officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Monday prior to the service.
Mrs. May will lay in state at New Fairview Baptist Church, Oliver Springs, TN on Tuesday, August 5 from 1-2pm. A graveside service will be held following at the New Fairview Baptist Cemetery.
Friends and extended family members will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting monetary donations be made to Sevier's United Methodist Church, 701 Hwy 107, Jonesborough, TN 37659.
