Ella Kate Vines Byrd Smith, Jonesborough, passed away at HNC Healthcare in Johnson City on Saturday, July 26, 2014.
She was born in Washington County, Tennessee on January 28, 1927 to Noah A. Vines and Mattie Hoper Vines.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Willard E. Byrd, her second husband, Reece Smith, two brothers; Walter and Roy Vines, four sisters: Edith Gray Baskett, Bernita Crigger, Margaret Forrester and infant girl Vines.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Smith graduated from Jonesborough High School in 1944. She worked for the Artcraft Glove Company for approximately 33 years and subsequently retired from Hill’s Department Store.
Mrs. Smith was an active member of Gospel Light Tabernacle in Johnson City prior to her becoming incapacitated.
A funeral service will be held at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 29 at 2:00 PM with Pastor David Nunley officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.
The burial service will take place at Monta Vista Memorial Gardens in Johnson City immediately following the funeral service.
Pallbearers will be selected from friends and family.
The family would like to express heartfelt appreciation to the staff of NHC Healthcare in Johnson City and Caris Healthcare for the loving care, compassion and comfort provided Mrs. Smith over the past five years.
