Mr. Homer Lee Wilson, age 89, Jonesborough, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2014 at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.
Mr. Wilson was born in Mitchell County, North Carolina and son of the late David and Hattie Hoilman Wilson.
He was a World War II veteran serving in the 1st Armored Division and received the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in Italy. He retired from Pet Dairy.
Mr. Wilson was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Jonesborough.
Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by a son, Gary Wilson; three brothers’ Jesse Wilson, John Wilson, and Willard Wilson; one sister, Joyce Byrd; a grandson, Daniel Wayne Wilson; a great-granddaughter, Emma Grace Wilson, and niece, Carol Markwood.
Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife Marie Francis Wilson of the home, daughter Nelda Valentine-Mynatt (John) of Jonesborough; four grandchildren, Justin Valentine of Jonesborough, Jeremy Valentine (Kim) of Elizabethton, David Wilson (Alicia) of Jonesborough, and Stacy Wilson Hoffman (Wade) of Pittman, New Jersey; two great-grandchildren, Cara Marie Wilson and Luke Brantley Wilson; three nephews, Harold Wilson (Brenda) of Telford, Don Wilson (Sherry) of Knoxville, and Claude Lee Wilson (Gay) of Knoxville; and two nieces, Ruth Ann Dargis of Knoxville and JoAnn Robbins (Wayne) of Florida.
Funeral services will be conducted 7:00 PM Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Dr. Mark Harrod and Dr. Kenneth Gaskins officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Tuesday prior to the service.
Interment services will be conducted 10:45 AM Wednesday July 9, 2014 at Mountain Home National Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Harold Wilson, Greg Bowman, Stuart Foulke, David Wilson, Jeremy Valentine, and Justin Valentine. Honorary pallbearer will be Billy Harris.
