Mr. Guy “Butch” Weems, Jr. age 67, Jonesborough, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2014 at his residence.
Mr. Weems was a native of Washington County and son of the late Guy & Josephine Renner Weems.
He was a member of Jonesborough Presbyterian Church, where he served several terms as Elder and on various committees.
Mr. Weems was a Veteran of the United States Navy and Marine Corp Reserve. He was a volunteer driver for the American Red Cross.
He served one term as an Alderman for the town of Jonesborough.
Mr. Weems was an Attorney receiving a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Memphis State University. He was a member of Tennessee Bar Association. He practiced law in Jonesborough for 25 years.
Mr. Weems was a former member of Jonesborough Civitan Club.
Survivors include his sister and brother-in-law, Ida & Bob Shurr, Jonesborough; niece, Angie Sheehan and husband Chris, Breckenridge, Colorado; great-niece, Sydney Sheehan and great-nephew, Spencer Sheehan, both of Breckenridge; and several cousins.
Memorial services will be conducted 2:00 PM Monday, March 24, 2014 at Jonesborough Presbyterian Church with Rev. Allen Huff and Rev. Ron Goss officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM Monday prior to the service.
Private inurnment services will be conducted at a later date.
Honorary pallbearers will be Phil Tobias, David Wise, Sam Mitchell, Frank Saylor, Jim Cash, Larry Garst, Tom Johnson, Chris Sheehan, Bill Hicks, Lloyd Sheets, Alfred Greenlee, Jim Rhein, Ignacy Fonberg, Wesley Wilson and Wayne Taylor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Jonesborough Presbyterian Church or the Washington County/Johnson City Animal Shelter.
