Elene Beam McMillan, age 100, Jonesborough, TN passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at her home.
She was born October 18, 1913 in Lincoln County, NC to Charles & Nancy Carpenter Beam. She was the youngest of ten children, brothers, Guy, Dewey, Marvin, Grier and Craig; sisters, Hattie (Stough) Beam, Nell (Beverly) Heavner, Lillie Beam and Eva (Carlyle) Summer, all of whom are now deceased. Besides parents, sibling and in-laws, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Boone McMillan in 1961, a son Edward Bayne McMillan in 2011 and a son-in-law, Fred Weaver in 1975.
Survivors include daughter Nancy Weaver, of the home; sons, Jerry and wife Sam McMillan, Hoschton, GA and Layne and wife Wanda McMillan, Malvern, PA; daughter-in-law, Debra McMillan, Earl, NC; grandchildren, Edward McMillan, Jr., Richard McMillan, Barry McMillan, Dr. Corey McMillan, Leslie McMillan Hein, Adam McMillan, Fredda Weaver Roberts and their families; eight dearly loved great-grandchildren; she leaves a foster grandson, Daniel Powers and his family; and a number of nieces, nephews and special friends, Ervin & Nancy Hoffman and family, Gastonia, NC.
Elene loved God and her family deeply. She enjoyed her many birthday parties having recently celebrated her 100th with family, friends, neighbors and church family in attendance.
Besides being a loving, gentle mother she was a wonderful productive teacher having retired from NC where she taught in Lincoln and Gaston Counties for 37 years. Later, after moving to Tennessee with her daughter, she did interium and substitute teaching in Cumberland County for four years.
Always active in church matters such as teaching, fund raising, starting programs like Operation Christmas Child. She was a charter member of Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church and later joined Jonesborough United Methodist. She was active as long as possible. She was benevolent with monetary gifts to many organizations.
Funeral services will be conducted 12:00 pm Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Tammy Wright officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00-12:00 pm Saturday prior to the service. Interment will follow at Maple Lawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be family & friends.
