Mr. Leonard C. Stoots, 85 of Jonesborough passed into heaven’s gates to reunite with his wife Mildred on Saturday, October 26, 2013, surrounded by his family, at Johnson City Medical Center.
He was a son of the late William & Rose Nelson Stoots. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 60 years, Mildred Guinn Stoots, three brothers; Joe, Marlyn, and Virgil Stoots and a sister Bertha Stoots.
Mr. Stoots was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He was a member of Cherokee Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday school teacher, and softball coach.
He was a member of the Limestone Lodge chapter 21 F & AM for 50 years. He retired as a Supervisor from the City of Johnson City.
He is survived by five sons, Bob Stoots (Pam), Bill Stoots, Benny Stoots (Rita), Bryan Stoots (Teresa), and Barry Stoots (Shona); three daughters, Beverly Thomas, Barbara Gamble (Patton), Benita Ford (Craig); twelve grandchildren, Shelley, Allison (Aaron), Chasity, Jaime (Stephen), Ben (Natasha), Keith, Amy (Jonathan), Katie, Zach, Bryce, Taylor, and Aaron; six great grandchildren, Keri, Cole, Grayson, Brayden, Brandon and Brasen; sister, Eva Carey; two brothers, James Stoots (Betty) and Robert Stoots.
Funeral services for Mr. Leonard C. Stoots will be conducted 8:00 pm Monday, October 28, 2013 at the Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael McCloud officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 pm Monday prior to the service.
Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 am Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at Cherokee Baptist Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be sons. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons.
The family would like to thank the Johnson City Medical Center and the nursing staff of 6300 and 2600, NHC of Johnson City, Amedisys, the doctors of Internal Medicine, Dr. Enck, and Dr. Rebecca Copeland for all their loving care of our father.
