Mr. Larry G. Curtis, age 79, Johnson City, passed away Monday, September 30, 2013 at his residence.

Mr. Curtis was born in Jonesborough and son of the late Roy Walden & Mildred Archer Curtis. In addition to his parents, Mr. Curtis was preceded in death by two brothers, including his twin brother, Harry J. Curtis, Stanley D. Curtis and a sister, Jean Hope Curtis Williams Wolfe.

He was a member of Munsey United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir. He was active with the Emmaus Community and made all the wooden crosses that were presented. He loved woodworking and making wine.

Mr. Curtis was a United States Army Veteran. He was a Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army Signal Corp. and after three years of active duty and seventeen years in the National Guard he retired as Major in 1977.

He graduated from ETSU in 1956 with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. He was a Chemist at Eastman Chemical Company, retiring in 1999 after 38 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine Frances Hoeft Curtis, Johnson City; three sons and daughters-in-law, Darren Curtis & Brenda Bergbigler, Phillip & Patrice Curtis, all of Gray and Vincent & Beth Curtis, Hickory, NC; grandchildren, Madison Curtis, Mason Curtis, Brittany Curtis, Hayden Curtis, Abigail Curtis and Justin Runion; and several nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be conducted 7:00 pm Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church with Bishop Richard Looney and Rev. Michael Lester officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 5:00-7:00 pm Wednesday prior to the service.

Interment services will be conducted 10:00 am Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Sulphur Springs Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Rex Evans, Roy Faulk, Steve Zarich, Bill Darden, Kenny Curtis and Mickey Archer. Honorary pallbearers will be men of the Virgil Anderson Sunday school class.
