Janice Cole Laws, age 70, Jonesborough, passed away Monday, September 9, 2013 at her residence after a courageous five year battle with ovarian cancer.

Ms. Laws was a native of Washington County and a resident of the Cherokee Community. She was born October 1, 1942 a daughter of the late Everette N. & Della Peters Cole.

She was a member of Union Christian Church, Jonesborough.

Ms. Laws retired from Harris Tarkett after 24 years of service. She loved gardening, working with her flowers and had a lifelong love of farming.

Survivors include a son, James Edward Laws, of the home; daughters, Angela Laws Denton, Johnson City, Rebecca “Becky” Laws Slagle and husband, Johnny Slagle, Richmond Hill, GA; beloved four grandchildren, who were the joy of her life, Chloe Abigail Denton and Blake Victoria Denton, Gray, Emily Rebecca Slagle and Jonathan Nicholas Slagle, Richmond Hill, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis & Alvin Riddle, Johnson City; brother, Everette N. Cole, Jr., Locust Grove, GA and brother and sister-in-law, Charlie A. & Deborah Cole, Columbia, SC; special cousin, who was like her “other brother” and his wife, Jerry & Sandra Cole, Johnson City; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.

The family would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Paul Kramer and his staff at the Hope/Wellmont Center for Women for their wonderful care of our mother; Our sincere appreciation to Amanda Brown, a special Chemotherapy Nurse and friend. We would also like to extend our appreciation to Wellmont Hospice, especially nurse Becky for the wonderful care given to our mother these last weeks of her life.

Funeral services will be conducted 7:00 pm Thursday, September 12, 2013 at the Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Minister Charles Fitzsimmons and Minister Steve Trinkle officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 pm Thursday prior to the service.

Interment services will be conducted 11:00 am Friday, September 13, 2013 at Cherokee Baptist Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan Slagle, grandson, Doug, Jeff, Greg, Brian Riddle and Mark Taylor, all nephews of Ms. Laws; and Shelby Owens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cherokee Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 143 Mayberry Rd. Jonesborough, TN 37659.
