Howard J. Phillips, 82 passed away Saturday August 31 2013 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Washington County and Son of the late William David and Elizabeth Oliver Phillips. Mr. Phillips was retired from the United States Air Force with 25 years of accredited service. After retirement he moved his family back to Washington County from Charleston SC where he and his wife opened several local businesses including Ruby’s downtown Johnson City and Ruby’s Cool Ade Shop in Jonesborough.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William David and Elizabeth Oliver Phillips and siblings Clarence E. Phillips, William H. Phillips, Walter C. Phillips, and Maxine Butler Hayes.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years Ruby Miller Phillips, children Penny Phillips Walters and husband John, Tina Phillips Brown, Toney Phillips, Marshall Phillips and wife Marlene,
Marlo Adams and husband William, Samantha Correll and husband John. And Brother Thomas E. Phillips and wife Peggy. 12 Grandkids, 7 Great Grandkids and several cousins.
Mr. Phillips was of the Christian faith. No services are scheduled at this time.
