Mr. Jerry Altman, age 65, Jonesborough, loving husband and father passed away at home on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Mr. Altman was born in Johnson City and son of the late Thomas & Earline Adams Altman. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Shelby Jean Deloach and brother, Howard Keith Altman.

He was a member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church. He had the amazing ability to live, love and bring people together. He loved the Lord and prayed for his family and friends every night.

Mr. Altman loved to play baseball and football. He could throw knuckleballs all day long. He coached baseball and football teams in the Sulphur Springs community. He enjoyed camping, hunting and skeet shooting. He shot a perfect round of 25 on his last round of skeet with a 28 gauge.

He worked at North American Rayon, after the plant closed; he attended Northeast State and then worked at Electrolux.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Patty Deakins Altman, Jonesborough; sons and daughters-in-law, Keith & Pam Altman, Mark & Susie Altman and Jason & Karen Altman; grandchildren, LeAnne, Cody, Tanner, and Lelia Altman; step-grandchildren, Cassie, Courtney, Joni Million; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom & Becky Altman, Johnson City, Kenneth & Peggy Altman, Little Mt. SC and Glen & Mary Altman, Sulphur Springs; and special friends, Clarence Greene and Deril Dixon.

“We will miss his smile and his love but rejoice he is in the kingdom of Heaven.”

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Jeff Farrow and MSHA Hospice for their wonderful care.

A Celebration of Life Services will be conducted 8:00 pm Friday, July 26, 2013 at the Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor Jon Reed and Rev. Robert English officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Friday prior to the service and other times at the home.

Interment services will be conducted 11:30 am Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Sulphur Springs Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Stanley Shell, Tommy Woods, Mike Seal, Mike McNees, Shawn Chandler and Dustin Chandler.
