Mr. Luney Edward Drain, Jr. 86, Jonesborough, died Saturday, July 13, 2013 at the Johnson City Medical Center.
He was a native of Washington County and son of the late, Luney Edward and Eva Pearl Bayless Drain, Sr.
Mr. Drain was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Bertha Letterman Drain in 2006, a sister, Ruby Drain Buchanan, one brother, Frank Drain and grandson, Jeff Drain.
He retired from Mead Paper Co. after 35 years of service. Mr. Drain was a veteran of WWII having served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater and was a Fireman, First Class aboard the Essex-class Carrier USS Bennington. Mr. Drain received the Victory Medal, the American Theatre Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Medal.
He was a longtime member of Westerly Heights Baptist Church.
Survivors include four sons, Edward C. Drain and wife Kathy, Jonesborough, Samuel L. Drain, Fall Branch, James Michael Drain, Elizabethton and David W. Drain, Jonesborough; one sister, Judy Ann Drain Jenkins and husband, McKinley, Johnson City; seven grandchildren, Tenna Drain, Bryan Barnett and wife Wendy, Chad Drain and wife Lori, Kristy Joann Jones, Amaiya Drain, Amir Drain, and Caleb Drain; and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Luney Edward Drain, Jr. will be conducted 8:00 pm Tuesday July 16, 2013 at the Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bryant Collins officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Tuesday prior to the service and other times at the home of his son, Edward Drain.
Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 am Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Fairview Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Edward Drain, Samuel Drain, James Drain, David Drain, Chad Drain, Bryan Barnett and Brian Cox.
