Mr. Opie “Sonny” Armentrout, Jr. age 61, Jonesborough, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Johnson City Medical Center.
Mr. Armentrout was a native of Washington County and son of the late Opie Armentrout, Sr. and Marjorie Ferguson Armentrout.
He was a member of Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church.
Mr. Armentrout graduated from Sulphur Springs School and East Tennessee State University. He was owner of Sulphur Springs Bay Station, former Customer Service Representative for Kingsport Press, where he met his wife, and also worked for Southern Eastern Color Graphics.
Survivors include his wife, Denise Gilliam Armentrout, Jonesborough; twin sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel & Morgan Armentrout and Joshua & Heather Armentrout, all of Jonesborough; one sister, Lisa Armentrout, Jonesborough; father and mother-in-law, William Paul & Sarah Gilliam; brother-in-law, Buddy Broyles, brother and sister-in-law, Steve & Brenda Gilliam, David & Kim Gilliam and Greg & Debbie Gilliam; special uncles and aunts, Herb & Betty Armentrout, Bill & Shirley Ferguson and Hazel Garber; and many loved nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted 7:00 pm Monday, March 11, 2013 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor Lauri Jo Cranford and his uncle, Rev. Bill Ferguson officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm Monday prior to the service.
Interment services will be conducted 11:00 am Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Sulphur Springs Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Josh Armentrout, Daniel Armentrout, Cameron Shelton, Ross Campbell, Taylor Alexander, Jed Gilliam, Evan Gilliam and Matt Norris. Honorary pallbearers will be Joey Galloway, David Deakins, Dick Campbell, Jerry Ryans, Steve Alexander, Mike Lewis, Willie Hilbert, Johnny Deakins, John Wilcox, Johnny Squibb, Buddy Broyles, Steve Gilliam, David Gilliam, Greg Gilliam, Andrew Jones, Isaac Mitchell, Ron Barber and Steve Light.
