Mr. Paul Jackson Deakins, age 89, Johnson City, passed away Thursday, February 14, 2013 at his residence.

Mr. Deakins was the son of the late Ray Stuart & Mayme Britt Deakins.

He was an active member of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church.

Mr. Deakins was born in Erwin and lived most of his life in Washington County. He was a graduate of Lamar High School and attended East Tennessee State University and the University of Tennessee. He was a graduate of the Asheville Beauty Academy, Monsieur Louis School of Hair Design and Antione of Paris School, New York City. He attended seminars in Paris under the direction of Alexandra. Before returning to Johnson City, he was employed by Charles of the Ritz, New York, Elizabeth Arden in Washington D.C., Hutzlers in Baltimore and Ricardo’s in Atlanta. In 1961 Mr. Deakins founded and directed Paul’s School of Hair Design in Elizabethton. He operated Paul’s Beauty Salons for many years and later worked at Hair Crafters. He was a 50-year member of the National Hairdresser Association. He was a former member of Johnson City Little Theater and was an avid gardener.

He was a United States WWII Navy Veteran.

Survivors include cousins, Betty Neeley, Ernestine Renfro, Ellen Hastie, Sue Shadden and Rev. Lee Campbell.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Sunday, February 17, 2013 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Douglas Grove-DeJarnett officiating. Music will be provided by Ernestine Renfro. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm Sunday prior to the service. Interment services will follow at Bethesda Cemetery.
