Mr. Herbert Joe Townsend, age 65, Jonesborough, passed away Monday, December 31, 2012 at the Johnson City Medical Center.
Mr. Townsend was a native of Lenore, North Carolina and son of Edith Harmon Townsend, Jonesborough and the late Bynum Edgar Townsend.
He was a Supervisor at Veteran Administration Hospital in Canandaigua, New York and was an avid wood worker and hunter.
Mr. Townsend was a United States Army Veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Melissa Badmone Townsend, Jonesborough; children, Thomas Townsend (Shona), Toni Benfield (Keith) all of South Carolina, Tanya Taylor (Anthony), Ohio, Joseph Townsend, NY, Private James E. Townsend, Fort Drum, NY, Shane Townsend, Jonesborough and Lynn Hardin, New York; brothers, Dennis Townsend (Elaine), David Townsend, Kenneth Townsend, (Nora), Peanut Townsend (Sherry) and John Boy Townsend; sister, Francis Presnell, Betty Walsh, Maggie Carmona (Andy), Connie Saldna (Jesus) and Nancy Watts (Jim); grandchildren, Dillinger, Alyssa, Skye, Taylor, Tommy Jr., Jacob and Anna; and many nephews, nieces and in-laws.
Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 pm Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Alexander officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 pm Sunday prior to the service. Interment services will follow at New Victory Cemetery.
