Mrs. Mildred McIntosh Hayes, age 83, Jonesborough, passed away Monday, December 31, 2012 at the Johnson City Medical Center.

Mrs. Hayes was born in Flag Pond, TN (Unicoi County) and moved to Washington County in 1950. She was a daughter of the late Luther Cullis & Eunice Proffitt McIntosh. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hayes was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Frank Hayes in 1999, one brother, Walter McIntosh and one sister, Grace McIntosh Hensley.

She was one of the oldest members of Jonesborough Second Baptist Church.

Mrs. Hayes enjoyed visits with her grandchildren, sewing, canning, reading, but most of all, visiting with her friends, among those a special niece, Mildred “Maebell” Byrd and special friends, Sharon & Karen Cole.

She retired from Steinway Sewing Factory in 1965.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Harold & Sheila Hayes, Johnson City; two grandchildren, Malachi Hayes and Selena Hayes, both of the home; several nephews, nieces, brothers and sisters-in-law and a very special sister-in-law, Lois Whitaker.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Pro-Care Home Health, her special home health nurse of 18 years, Norma Gross, Dr. Jeff Farrow and his ICU Staff for the wonderful care given to Mildred who had been homebound for 30 years.

Funeral services will be conducted 8:00 pm Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Don Hilton officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 pm Thursday prior to the service and from 12:-3:00 pm Thursday at 168 Forrestview Dr. Jonesborough and other times at the home of her son, Harold Hayes 148 Simmons Ridge, Johnson City.

Interment services will be conducted 10:45 am Friday, January 4, 2013 at Mountain Home National Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Harold Byrd, Harold Lee Byrd, Malachi Hayes, L.D. Simmons, Andrew Garst and Alan Hayes.
