Mary Sue Hylton Masters

Mrs. Mary Sue Hylton Masters, age 87, Telford passed away Monday, December 17, 2012 at The Wellington Place in Greeneville. Her life was very full. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt.
Mrs. Masters was a native of Washington County and daughter of the late Oscar & Callie Green Hylton. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Masters was also preceded in death by her husband, J.B. Masters in 2009, brothers, Robert Hylton, Wallace Hylton, Leonard Hylton and Leroy Hylton, and two sisters, Mildred Shelton and Bessie Dee Whisman.
Mrs. Masters’ faith in Christ was very strong. She was active (until her health no longer permitted) in the choir, youth activities and home visitations. She grew up in Asbury United Methodist Church and moved her membership to Mount Wesley United Methodist Church, when she married J.B. in 1953.
Mrs. Masters was a farmer, a farmer’s wife and a gardener. She canned countless jars of half-runner beans as well as many other vegetables and fruit from her garden. She also enjoyed cooking for her family. She was an avid baseball fan, the Cincinnati Reds and Atlanta Braves were her favorite teams, but she was familiar with all the baseball teams. She was an animal lover and always had cats and dogs.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Alice & John Wayne Samples, Afton and Angela & Mike Shelton, Telford; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark & Angela Masters, Kingsport; grandchildren, Adam Shelton (Candice), Whitney (Shelton) Hardoby (Max), Drew Masters and Katie Masters; step-granddaughter, Anna Campbell (Will); great-grandchildren, Amber, Jade, & Michael Shelton; Sydney and Marco Hardoby and Emma & Sara Campbell; two very special sisters-in-law, Madge Hylton and Faye Masters; a special cousin, Stella Calhoun; and many beloved nephews and nieces.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the Staff of Wellington Place of Greeneville and Smoky Mountain Hospice for their wonderful care.
Funeral services will be conducted 6:00 pm Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Cathy Fowler and Eric Rowe officiating. Music will be provided by Sharon Lewis and Trey Hensley. The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 pm Saturday prior to the service.
Interment services will be conducted 2:00 pm Sunday, December 23, 2012 at Mount Wesley Cemetery
Pallbearers will be family & friends.
