Mrs. Neva J. Campbell, age 83, Limestone, passed away Thursday, November 29, 2012 at the Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital after a brief illness.
Mrs. Campbell was native of Washington County and daughter of the late James Howard Jeffers, Sr. & Clara Slagle Jeffers. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Campbell was preceded in death by her husband, Paul C. Campbell, Sr. and a brother, J.H. Jeffers, Jr.
She was a member of Salem Presbyterian Church, where she served as Elder. She was also an active member of “Hungry Souls Ministry,” of which she was a co-founder.
Mrs. Campbell was a member of the Limestone Eastern Star for over 50 years. “Miss Neva” as she was known by many people, was an active and very social person. She was always giving to others"whether it was a kind word, deed or one of her pints of pickles. She loved teapots, dishes and flowers. Mrs. Campbell was a charter member of the “Monday Club” which was a weekly social gathering of friends.
In her early career, Mrs. Campbell was a Legal Secretary for several attorneys in Greeneville and Johnson City. She also worked as a homemaker, loving mother, and farmer’s wife.
Survivors include two sons Clayton Campbell (Viola Verran), and Dwight Campbell, all of Limestone; one daughter, Carole Ann Campbell and husband Jeff Smith, Kingsport; honorary son, Sam Fullen, Johnson City; one brother, Wayne Jeffers, Jonesborough; a special cousin, Marcella Epperson, Johnson City; and several cousins.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. McKinney, Dr. Fred Myers, the Staffs of Takoma and Holston Valley Hospitals for the wonderful care given to Mrs. Campbell and for the ministry of Rev. Deven Johnson.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-8:00 pm Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 Sunday, December 2, 2012 at Salem Presbyterian Church with Rev. Bill Wing, Dr. Angus Shaw and Dr. James R. McKinney officiating. The body will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow at Urbana Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jim Austin, David Campbell, Alan Campbell, Jim Slagle, Jimmy Balding, Russell Greene, Tim Hensley and David Reid.

Neva and I were members of the class of '48 at Washington College High School (now Washington College Academy of Arts & Crafts). We were a close knit class, and some of my fondest memories are of those four years I spent in the dormitory at WC.
