Mrs. Lena Loyd Humphries, age 81, Johnson City, passed away Monday, October 22, 2012 at her residence after declining health for the past two years.

Mrs. Humphries was a lifelong resident of Washington County and Johnson City. She retired from the Washington County School Food Service Program. She had also been employed at Nettie Lee Boy & Girl Shoe department for many years in downtown Johnson City. She taught for many years in the Sunday school nursery at Telford United Methodist Church of which she was a member. She also sang in the church choir for many years. Lena was a very supportive, caring and loving mother and wife. She loved to camp, cook and entertain.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Goldie Loyd, her husband of 60 years, Pleasant “P.J.” Humphries; one son, Ronnie Humphries; one brother, Charles “Buster” Loyd; and two sisters, Margaret Peters and Mary Mae Keys.

Survivors include her son and caregiver for the past two years, Bradley Humphries, of the home; one brother, Herman Loyd, Limestone; four sisters, Kathleen Slemmons, Virginia, Helen Kilby Johnson City, Nylah Leonard, Maryland and Joan Rash, Johnson City; one special niece, Cindy Weems, Johnson City; one special great niece, Candice Cutshall, Jonesborough; two very special friends, Edna McFeature, Telford and Jackie Kilby Bowers, Johnson City; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:30 pm Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Telford United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Vaughn and Rev. Richard Looney officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:30 pm Thursday prior to the service. Interment services will follow at Telford Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be family & friends.
