Mr. Don Anderson Leonard, age 85, Johnson City, passed away Monday, September 24, 2012 at the Johnson City Medical Center.
Mr. Leonard was a native of Washington County and son of the late Dewey Iverson & Gladys Anderson Leonard. In addition to his parents, Mr. Leonard was also preceded in death by a sister, Doris Freeman,
He was an active member and past Deacon of Boones Creek Christian Church and also a member of the Home Builders Sunday School Class.
Mr. Leonard was a WWII United States Navy Veteran.
He retired from Tennessee Department of Transportation as Regional Rural Roads Manager after 34 years of service. After retirement, he went into Real Estate for 11 years. He served on the Washington County Election Commission where he was Chairman for many years.
Mr. Leonard loved gospel music, enjoyed gardening and cooking.
Survivors include his childhood sweetheart and wife of 67 years, Bessie McCracken Leonard, Johnson City; one daughter, Kathy Howell, Gray; one son, Bill D. Leonard, Gray; one sister, Jean Keefauver (Bill), Gray; grandchildren, Jeff Howell, Jennifer Friday, Rebecca Musgrove, William Leonard and Amy Leonard; seven great grandchildren, Madison and Meghan Friday, Carleigh & Connor Musgrove, Sophia , Ava and Grant Howell; and several nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be conducted 7:00 pm Thursday, September 27, 2012 at Boones Creek Christian Church with Minister David Clark and Minister Dick Morris officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 5:00-7:00 pm Thursday prior to the service.
Interment services will be conducted 11:00 am Friday, September 28, 2012 at Washington County Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Howell, William Leonard, Mike Freeman, Lee Freeman, Barry Redman, Mark Fox, Denny Mayes, Gayle Carson, Johnny Gray,. Honorary pallbearers will be Don McCracken, Kyle Humphrey, Robert Rankin, Bob Allen, Carl Kinchloe, Bobby Hawkins, Steve Clouse, James Love, Dan Rutledge, David Saylor, Harold Johnson, Ed Bowman and members of the Home Builders Class.
