Mrs. Sarah Kate Jackson Whitaker, age 90, Jonesborough, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at Christian Care Center of Johnson City.

Mrs. Whitaker was a native of Washington County and daughter of the late J.J. & Josephine Vines Jackson. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Whitaker was also preceded in death by her husband, Harold Whitaker, daughter, Marrijo Whitaker, one brother, Ernest “Bud” McPeak and a daughter-in-law, Sharron Byrd Whitaker.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Jonesborough and Dorcas Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Whitaker drove the special needs school bus and had worked at Weems Florist. She enjoyed gardening, making crafts and was a member of Greenwood Home Demonstration Club.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jack & Sandy Whitaker and David & Kay Whitaker, all of Jonesborough; grandchildren, Leigh Ann Whitaker, Portland, Oregon and Mechelle Whitaker Roach, Johnson City; great-granddaughter, Amanda Roach, Johnson City; and special cousin, Melissa Whitaker.

Funeral services will be conducted 7:00 pm Friday, July 27, 2012 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor Joel Cook officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 pm Friday prior to the service.

Interment services will be conducted 11:00 am Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Maple Lawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be family.
