Mr. Walter M. “Chip” Scroggs, Jr., age 61, Jonesborough, passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2012.

Mr. Scroggs was a native of Clay County, North Carolina and son of the late Walter Morris, Sr. and Leah Ash Scroggs. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Scroggs.

He attended Jonesborough Church of God.

Mr. Scroggs was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in Vietnam. He received the bronze star as well as other metals.

He retired from the field of nursing.

Mr. Scroggs was an avid outdoorsman.

Survivors include his wife, Carole Scroggs, one son, Marty Scroggs, one daughter, Jennifer E. Cook, all of Jonesborough; four grandchildren, Zachary Cook, Drew Cook, Brent Scroggs, and Summer Scroggs; two sisters, Rebecca Garrett and husband, Tony of North Carolina, Stacha Hinnant and husband, Earl of South Carolina, and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services for Mr. Scroggs will be conducted Friday, July 6, 2012 at the VA Mountain Home National Cemetery at 2:00 pm. If anyone would wish to follow the family in procession they are asked to meet at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home by 1:15 pm.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
