Mr. Sheryl Wayne Carey, age 63, Jonesborough, passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at the Johnson City Medical Center.

Mr. Carey was a native of Washington County and the son of Betty White Carey and the late Jack Carey.

Mr. Carey was a 1967 graduate of Jonesboro High School and a graduate of ETSU where he played baseball and was a third baseman.

Mr. Carey was general manager of Appalachian Gypsum in Jonesborough.

He was an avid golfer and expert ‘Tailgater’ at UT and Titan Football games.

Sheryl accomplished many things in his life, too numerous to mention.

He attended St. Mary The Virgin Episcopal Church.

Survivors in addition to his mother include one sister, Tessa Carey, Jonesborough; one nephew, Adrian Platt, Jonesborough; two great-nephews, Christian Platt and Samuel Greene, who knew him as “Buddy”, and they were the love of his life; and also several cousins.

Funeral services for Mr. Carey will be 8:00 PM Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Father Patrick Bone and Father Ralph Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 PM prior to the service.

Interment will be 2:00 PM Sunday, March 25, 2012 at Maple Lawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Lynn Lloyd, Mike Haws, Phil Ritchie, Don Correll, Steve Franklin, Joe Carr, Steve Ritchie and David Christian, Mike Bowers, and Louie Shipley.

Honorary Pallbearers are Jesse Collins, George Mahanes, Steve Miller, John Hanlan, Mike Roy, Lee Coldiron, Jim Kemph, Steve Fair, David Ritchie, John Kindt, and all the “Crew” at Appalachian Gypsum.
